The Lloyds Banking Group said on Sunday that it would block the purchase of bitcoins and other cryptographic currencies through its credit cards.

"Llodys Bank, Bank of Scotland, Halifax and MBNA will not accept credit card transactions for the purchase of cryptographic currencies," a company spokesman said.

The company will block any attempt to buy bitcoin starting Monday, but digital currencies will be purchased with debit cards, the Telegraph reported.

According to the newspaper, the blockade will be realized through a black list labeling coin sellers.

The company fears consumers will buy bitcoins with credit cards to win and if the currency price falls they will plunge into debt.

British Prime Minister Teresa Mej has said Britain should take seriously cryptographic coins for the way it is being used by criminals.
